Off Beat Campsite in the Mountains

“Like to keep her runnin’ just a little longer
Too little time, too much to see!”

Off Beat Campsite in the MountainsThe bad boys, the outcasts, the hooligans, the rebels! Or so the usual perception about us MOTORCYCLISTS. But I have met one of the nicest people on a motorcycle. We are an unusual bunch really, but not necessarily, outcasts. Most of us don’t like to travel in bubbles, and like exploring Mother Nature. We love adventure, trails, twisties, barbecue & a drink and we probably love our machines more than we love our girlfriends. What does that get us to do? It gets us to explore the unexplored, to ride the road less traveled, to know no roads & at times, to get there before the road.

Anyone who loves travel & the rich experience involved in it will be able to relate to this at some level. We aren’t the frilly types, living in hotels; we are the fun-type, who love to camp. And with that, I’d like to share some a cool place to camp around our very own Western Ghats of Maharashtra.

Taked is a small village located 48kms from Nashik and a little ahead of Igatpuri. It is blessed with massive lush green Sahyadri’s that are packed with windmills. The countryside will surprise you with lovely tarmac roads, clear blue sky, and alluring water bodies. There are no hotels in Taked so one should be well equipped with camping gear (Tent, power banks, sleeping bag, Emergency light, water, and snacks).

It is the ideal place to camp as it takes you away from the daily hustle and bustle of the city. The villagers are very pleasant, they will help you set up your camp and serve local homemade food. Poha for breakfast, Freshwater fish, mutton/chicken konkan curry and bhakri. The food was cooked in typical Maharashtrian style. It was spicy and had a very local flavor.
Off Beat Campsite in the MountainsThe nights are extremely chilly and the sky is packed full of stars. So much silence in the atmosphere that I could still hear my bike roaring. It was one of those perfect nights where I had my motorcycle, 5 best friends, bliss location, cold weather, crackling bonfire and a glass of rum. You experience the thrill of being alive and you get to experience the wilderness that has so many things to offer you.

I loved your photos, and was a tad jealous of you. I can understand the feeling, when you mentioned you felt alive, and trust me these are the moments which really make life worth living. I would love to go for camping sometime, in the future.

Waking up to the open skies and the twinking of stars is an experience of camping that is simply out of the world. Taked is such a picturesque place, seems tailormade for camping.

Hearing about Taked for the firs time today. Have explored a couple of places in Maharashtra, and i agree the joy of exploring the Shayadris on a 2 wheeler is on a different level altogether.

I love camping under the stars and on the mountains. I have camped a few times under the Milky Way and I absolutely loved it, but I would love to do more often in India.

Camping under the stars is a dream for many and very few can make it happen. I guess we need to wait for few more years where my kids will shun the comfort and gaze at sky .
